I have been hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and generally enjoying the great outdoors for well over 50 years. I grew up on a lake in Florida, where fishing and hunting were second nature. I have pursued my passion from the jungles of South America to the northern reaches of the Arctic Circle and most points in between. One of the most important things I've discovered over the years is people want to know how to be better at what they love to do. A background in newspapers, the wire services, magazines and now the Internet has instilled a strong desire for sharing the information that I have garnered from hundreds of professional guides, industry specialists, friends and mentors.

One of the things that I discovered early in my career is that no one knows everything, and only a fool tries to convince people that he does. When I need to know something about a subject that I am not totally comfortable with, I go to the experts. Much of the information in my buyer's guides comes directly from industry designers and developers that bring new products to our door. While it is difficult to eliminate all product bias, I only recommend products that I have personally used in the field and feel confident about relative quality and features.
