Baker sponsors 2nd Amendment protection bill in Legislature
Eustis, FL – State Senator Carey Baker (R-Eustis) has introduced a new bill, the Florida Firearms Freedom Bill, in the State Senate aimed at protecting in-state manufacturing and sales of firearms from federal regulations.
Baker, who owns the nation’s oldest continuously operating gun shop – The A.W. Peterson Gun Shop in Mount Dora, Florida – expressed his strong support for the 2nd Amendment at a 4th of July Tea Party rally at Amway Arena in Orlando.
“Now is the time for the Florida Legislature to stand up and protect the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms that I and millions of fellow Floridians enjoy,” Baker said. “As the federal government continues its aggressive march toward limiting our constitutional freedoms, we must do everything in our power to ensure that our 2nd Amendment rights are never compromised.”
The Florida Firearms Freedom Bill, similar to a law signed in Montana this year, states that guns manufactured and sold entirely within the State of Florida are not subject to federal gun laws. State Representative Marlene O’Toole introduced the companion bill in the Florida House of Representatives.
ABOUT CAREY BAKER: Senator Carey Baker has served in the Florida Army National Guard for over 28 years. Most recently, he was deployed for a year in Iraq’s Sunni Triangle during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Carey currently represents Florida’s 20th District in the State Senate, which includes parts of Lake, Marion, Volusia, Seminole and Sumter Counties. He has announced his candidacy for Florida Commissioner of Agriculture,www.careybaker.com, a position that oversees the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and is one of four statewide elected members of the Florida Cabinet.
